Full disclosure: I’m not the most knowledgeable individual when it comes to Cruella de Vil or the beloved Disney animated classic “One Hundred and One Dalmatians”. But even I know Cruella is an iconic Disney villain. She’s a greedy, vain and demented London heiress who kidnaps puppies in order to harvest their fur. See! Utterly […]
Crime

What is the movie about? :: Georgekutty (Mohanlal) and Rani (Meena), along with their daughters Anju (Ansiba Hassan) and Anu (Esther Anil) have become richer after those earlier incidents, as the former has now bought some land, and started a film theatre by the name Rani. Their neighbour Saritha (Anjali Nair) is a victim of […]

No Country for Old Men (2007)

Llewelyn Moss stumbles upon dead bodies, $2 million and a hoard of heroin in a Texas desert, but methodical killer Anton Chigurh comes looking for it, with local sheriff Ed Tom Bell hot on his trail. The roles of prey and predator blur as the violent pursuit of money and justice collide. (Letterboxd) Masterfully shot […]
My Valentine’s Day Pick: Date Night (2010)

Date Night dabbles in suburban marriage matters, police corruption, and the art of locking your front bumper to the front bumper of a New York taxi cab in the midst of a car chase. A crazy mixed bag in category and appeal, but with Steven Carell and Tina Fey doing the work, the result is […]
The Little Things (2021)

We’re at that time of year in the UK right now where the rain falls pretty much every day and the sun is nowhere to be seen after 4PM. I don’t know about you, but those kinds of conditions always draw me towards the darker side of cinema. Now isn’t the time for a fluffy […]
The 400 Blows

Welcome to The Best Movies I’ve Never Seen! This is the part of the blog where I work my way through 100 films I’ve never seen that are generally considered to be great. You’re invited to watch along with me if you can find a copy or find it streaming. So grab some popcorn and let’s […]
Movie Review: “Rage”

Not to be a broken record, but what are they NOT teaching in film school about editing and pace these days? Is everybody taking their filmmaking cues from limited series (streaming) television? Because up here and Down Under, I’m seeing scores of movies that drift like an ice flow, taking forever to get to whatever […]
Movie Review: “Rage” rage at this pokey thriller from Down Under
Quick Review of THE LITTLE THINGS

“Some things never let us go” is the tagline of the new film THE LITTLE THINGS out in select theaters and streaming today on HBO Max. Problem is, even with three Academy Award winners – Denzel Washington (Training Day, Glory), Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody) and Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) – this film not only […]
REVIEW: “La Llorona” (2020)

Whatever you do don’t confuse Jayro Bustamante’s “La Llorona” with 2019’s promising but ultimately disappointing “The Curse of La Llorona”. The two couldn’t be more different, their only real connection being the ubiquitous Latin American folk tale of “The Weeping Woman”. Bustamante has a much more sobering ambition, using the ghostly legend as a means […]
LOCKED DOWN (2021)

Locked Down (2021), Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anne Hathaway, Warner Brothers Locked Down has some memorable moments. Yet, overall, director Doug Limans romance/comedy about a couple’s attempt at a high-risk, high-stakes jewellery heist during the Coronavirus pandemic isn’t great. Starring Anne Hathaway, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Ben Kingsley; the most memorable scenes for me feature Kingsley and Ben Stiller. […]
Movie Review: Promising Young Woman

Seven years ago, Cass was one of the brightest students in medical school, along with her closest friend, Nina. Then, after a rape scandal that involved Nina, they both dropped out. Fast forward to present day, Cass was a 30 years old, living with her parents, and single. During the […]
Hitchcock: The 39 Steps (1935)

The 39 Steps was arguably Alfred Hitchcock’s most adventurous adaptation at the time that it was released. It’s based on the novel by John Buchan, published in 1915, which tells the story of Richard Hannay, played here by Robert Donat, who becomes embroiled in an international conspiracy on the dawn of World War II. For […]
The White Tiger

I didn’t like the book and I didn’t like the movie. I am so, so tempted to leave this review at just that one sentence but I know that would be a bit disingenuous since I am very much in the minority on this. So I’ll give you a slightly fuller picture and you will […]
First Glance: “Cherry”

“Sometimes I feel like I’ve seen everything that’s going to happen. And it’s a nightmare.” That line of dialogue from “Cherry” really sums up the new trailer’s vibe nicely. This emotionally dense and dark-looking Apple Original reunites Tom Holland with the MCU’s Avengers architects Anthony and Joe Russo. But rest assured, judging by our first […]
Connolly: The Dry (2021)

The Dry is a pretty passable adaptation of a fairly readable novel – it’s not going to seriously disappoint any fans of the book but it never quite blooms into a film on its own term either. For those who haven’t read the crime thriller that took Australian readers by storm in 2016, Jane Harper’s […]
[REVIEW] ‘Effigy: Poison and the City’

Anyone who has read this blog for long knows I have a soft spot in my heart for period piece dramas. I even recently enjoyed the glittery and not-at-all true to life series Bridgerton on Netflix. Today I want to share my quick thoughts on something entirely different in the world of period films. This […]
Promising Young Woman

Cassie (Carey Mulligan) was once a promising young woman, a fact her parents take the opportunity to remind her of every morning at breakfast. Now 30, friendless, living at home despite heavy parental hinting that it may be time to move one, an unambitious med school dropout turned barista, Cassie’s parents (Jennifer Coolidge, Clancy Brown) […]
Southern Drug Kingpin – Arkansas (2020)

Getting into the business. So this is about big-time drug dealers in Arkansas. There is a hierarchy in the occupation, and at the top of the pyramid is a man named Frog (Vince Vaughn). Two up-and-comers (Liam Hemsworth, Clark Duke) are starting to prove themselves, but they have yet to meet the man in charge. […]
Your Honor

Your Honor: Çocuğu İçin Kendi Hayatını Hiçe Sayan Bir Baba (Bölüm 4-5-6 İncelemesi) İnişli çıkışlı bir başlangıç yapan dizinin devamını merakla bekliyordum.
